On Sunday, August 4th, 2019, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held their annual awards and achievements ceremony from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The party was hosted by all executives. There were about 80 people in total.
The ceremony serves both to celebrate the branch’s gold, silver, and bronze award recipients and to go over what the branch has done this year.
The event started off with family introductions. Each branch member went to the front and introduced themselves and their parents. It was a great opportunity for all of the members and parents to get to know one another. We then went over what the branch has done throughout the year, the events it has planned, and introduced the 15 Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) winning members.
The secretary went over the volunteer hours members completed during the year, and each of the Public Officers who head our branch’s three programs — Music Performances, Tutoring, and Give a Hand — gave a summary of what their program has accomplished this year. I think that what we’ve done this year is quite amazing — we’ve expanded our Tutoring and Give a Hand program, and contacted new locations for music performances. Our members have increased dramatically and so we need new officers to oversee them. During the event, our branch also introduced new nominations for a variety of positions. The branch now has a treasurer position, 4 new public officer positions to oversee our increasing activities in programs like academic tutoring, and a new advisor. To help guide this new influx of officers, the veteran officers gave speeches telling them about their experiences and what is expected of them. In total, 11 of the officers spoke.
Afterward, each of the members who had received the PVSA awards went to the front and accepted the certificate and a medal.
Finally, all of the attendees had a potluck. Every member’s family brought food to eat, and we all had a great time.
