On May 24, 2025, David and Edward Soong volunteered at the library for 2 hours each. During their time there, they took part in several important tasks that supported the library staff and helped improve the experience for visitors. Some of their responsibilities included sorting and shelving returned books, checking for misplaced items, straightening shelves, and assisting guests with locating specific materials and sections within the library.
By organizing returned books and placing them back in the correct order, David and Edward helped ensure that the library’s collection stayed neat, complete, and easy to navigate. This simple but important job made it easier for visitors to quickly find the books and resources they came for, whether it was a child searching for their favorite series or a student looking for materials to complete a school assignment. Keeping the shelves orderly also prevented delays and frustration for guests, especially during busier hours.
In addition to handling books, both volunteers assisted visitors who had questions about where to find certain topics or sections in the library. This was especially helpful for elderly patrons and those unfamiliar with how the library was organized. Offering this support made people feel more comfortable and confident using the library’s resources, creating a welcoming environment where everyone felt encouraged to ask for help.
Maintaining a quiet, clean, and organized space also made a noticeable difference for those using the library to study, read, or relax. By keeping everything in order, David and Edward contributed to the calm and peaceful atmosphere that people rely on when visiting the library. This work not only helped the staff manage daily operations more smoothly but also improved the overall experience for every person who walked through the doors that day.
Small tasks can have a positive and lasting effect on the community. Helping organize and support the library ensures that people of all ages have a free, safe, and welcoming place to learn, read, and connect with others.
