Newtown AYLUS Members Assist with Bingo at Local Senior Center

To assist in organizing and facilitating a Bingo game for the senior residents, aiming to provide social engagement, mental stimulation, fun in a supportive community environment, Newtown AYLUS members volunteered at the Sunrise Senior home of Lower Makefield (631 Stony Hill Rd, Morrisville, PA 19067) on May 18th 2025.

We helped certain seniors who had trouble hearing or seeing in the Bingo games by repeating the number called for them and pointing to the designated spot. We also helped those who have difficulties to locate and assemble chips. After they were done with the Bingo game, we cleaned up the whole area. The efforts of our volunteers allowed the seniors to play much more Bingo games than they would have otherwise, because we helped speed-up the reset process every round. The seniors expressed a lot of gratitude to our volunteers and stated that we did a “wonderful job” after the end of the event.

Volunteering at the senior center was a rewarding experience. It was heartwarming to see the residents enjoying themselves, laugh and interact with one another. The experience enhanced our communication and organization skills and deepened my appreciation for the value of community service.

Members who participated were Zhenyi Zhang (Event leader) and Melinda He, both of whom contributed 1 hour to make this possible.
