On May 13, 2025, 6:00-7:00 pm, AYLUS volunteers continued their efforts to support local students through academic tutoring and language assistance. Volunteers tutored at the plaza Great Neck Library to assist in various subjects. Linzi Yeung assisted a 6th grader with social studies, helping her complete a notebook entry on the Qin dynasty, reinforcing understanding of ancient Chinese history. Rebecca also supported a 6th grader, this time in mathematics, guiding him through concepts like identifying outliers and calculating the mean absolute deviation. Similarly, Baiyu Chen tutored a student in statistics, covering essential topics such as mean, median, mode, quartiles, and interquartile range (IQR).
In addition to academic support, AYLUS volunteers helped with practical language skills. Ivy Li worked with a student on English related to online shopping, including navigating websites, browsing products, and understanding return policies—skills essential for daily life. Elaine Xing provided general homework assistance to a young boy, ensuring he stayed on track with his assignments. Overall, the volunteers demonstrated patience, adaptability, and dedication to helping students grow both academically and in practical life skills.
