On April 16th, 2025, AYLUS Lake Washington Branch members Elissa Song, Kevin Chen, and advisor Cici Sun volunteered at the Earth Day/Spring Break Renovation Event at Evans Creek Preserve in Sammamish. During the two hour-long event, our members worked hard to extract and remove invasive blackberry roots, dig holes to plant plants, and clean gardening tools. Our members collectively planted around thirty plants, and dug up enough roots to fill up three large buckets.
As our members attended this event, we met other people from our community, forging invaluable connections with them and enriching our collective knowledge. We utilized our social and 21st century skills to collaborate with others and also utilized our physical labor to complete tasks. Everyone demonstrated amazing and palpable enthusiasm, acknowledging this event as an educational and fun activity. It has provided us a great opportunity to learn more about our surrounding environment and contribute towards the greater Sammamish community.
Our branch members volunteered from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, contributing a total of 6 volunteer hours:
Elissa Song: 2 hrs
Kevin Chen: 2 hrs
Cici Sun: 2 hrs
Location: Evans Creek Preserve, Sammamish, WA
