Activity & Impact
On February 23, 2025, eight members of the AYLUS North Hollywood branch volunteered for CicLavia: West Adams Meets University Park from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. CicLAvia is a large community festival during which streets are closed for bikers and for other forms of active transportation. It is hosted by the nonprofit CicLAvia, which “catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation, and good health through car-free streets. CicLAvia engages with people to transform our relationship with our communities and with each other.” Events are hosted a few times a year.
During the event, volunteers were permitted to set up a booth promoting AYLUS. Flyers and handouts were prepared beforehand that provided information on the goal of AYLUS as well as information on how individuals interested could join. The booth also provided snacks and drinks to passing cyclists to keep them refreshed and energized. The AYLUS booth also included a prize drop game and QR codes for interested passersby. The volunteers also provided support to organizers of the event by providing directions and assistance to bikers and pedestrians attending the festival. The information booth was largely successful, and by the end of it we had gained over 80 new Instagram followers and made connections with a number of coordinators in need of volunteers for their opportunities.
