On February 9th, AYLUS members went to their local Staples to recycle the years worth of old batteries they had kept. Recycling batteries is crucial for protecting the environment, as it prevents hazardous chemicals like lead, mercury, and cadmium from contaminating soil and water. It also helps conserve valuable materials such as lithium and cobalt, reducing the need for resource-intensive mining. By taking the time out of their day to recycle the batteries, AYLUS members managed to extensively reduce their waste and help the environment. We plan to conduct more battery recycling events in the future and add to a movement of preserving the environment.
