Aylus Great Neck Branch Volunteer at Upland Park on November 16th, 2024

AYLUS members volunteered at Upland Park from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The target area is the green space of Upland Park. Our goal this time is to plant some ornamental plants and seeds, such as Hydrangeas and Camellia.

Under the leadership of the team leader, the volunteers quickly made all preparations and entered the working state. First, use a small shovel to dig a small circular hole about 6 inches deep. Then, put healthy plant seeds into the hole with the roots facing down, two seeds in the big hole and one seed in the small hole. Finally, fill the hole with a rake. The steps for planting hydrangeas and camellias are the same as those for planting plant seeds. But there is one difference: after removing the flowers from the pots, before planting them in the pits, scrape off the soil attached to the roots of the plants. This step will make it easier for the roots of the plants to stretch and grow. Then you can place them in the pits and cover them with soil.

Planting plants in Upland Park is a meaningful thing. These plants can make everyone who sees them feel relaxed and make the park more lively. The volunteers were more than happy to do this.
