January 21,2019,East Cobb Branch Prepared Origami for Seniors

On January 21,2019, 13 of AYLUS East Cobb branch members met up and prepared origami for seniors center at a club house.

Members made flowers out of paper, representing Chinese paper cutting. Origami was also made: They were in the shapes of pigs which symbolizes 2019, the year of the pig for the lunar year. Michael Fu, the president of the East Cobb Branch, taught members how to fold a complex, pointed star origami piece. Students also folded other origami creations like cranes and butterflies. In addition, some students cut out tradition Chinese characters such as “fu” and “xi” , representing luck, to be taped onto the walls. Several girls knitted scarves.

Through our origami, we hope to bring joy to the seniors by giving the small gifts to them. We also hope to share our culture with the seniors through the origami. We also hope that the scarves we made will keep the seniors warm through the cold winter weather. All completed origami and paper cutting pieces will be donated to senior centers to hang as decorations or to tape into the walls or  windows to encourage a festive atmosphere for the Lunar new year.
