On August 24th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, the Queens branch participated in the King Manor Museum event in Jamaica, Queens. This event entailed creating various arts and crafts projects that were for children and a new exhibition at the museum. Volunteers went right to work with their projects, first picking what type of project they wanted to do, then following their creativity to create a work of art. The museum provided volunteers with an abundance of art materials, including paint, paper, ink, and quills. All artwork created was collected at 4:00 PM at the end of the event. The turnout for this event was amazing, and over 500 volunteers came together to make all of this possible!
Museums are often overlooked in the community as only being vessels for art. However, they have the ability to bring together people of different backgrounds, cultures, and lives. The King Manor Museum Event this past weekend has helped bring together the community of Jamaica along with others who traveled to make it to volunteer. The art created at this event brought participants closer together and volunteers were able to contribute to this meaningful interaction while also getting in touch with their creative sides.
