AYLUS Orlando Branch Collects Over 500 Books from Oviedo High School English Department (August 22nd, 2024)

Reported by Dylan Wang

On August 22nd, 2024, the AYLUS Orlando branch organized a successful book collection event at Oviedo High School, furthering our mission to promote literacy and provide educational resources to those in need. This event was particularly impactful as it involved a generous donation of over 500 books from the school’s English department, significantly contributing to our ongoing efforts to support Tito Peter’s Free Public Library in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines.

The event began with participants meeting at Oviedo High School, where they were warmly welcomed by the English department. The department had meticulously gathered a wide range of books, covering various genres and subjects, all intended to enrich the library’s collection. These books, which had been carefully curated, will play a vital role in enhancing the educational opportunities for the library’s visitors.

AYLUS participants worked diligently, spending an hour carefully loading the donated books from the English department’s storage area across the school campus and into their cars. This task required coordination and teamwork, as the participants navigated the school grounds to ensure that the books were safely transported. Their efforts ensured that these valuable educational materials will soon reach students and community members in the Philippines, where access to such resources is often limited.

AYLUS Participants did the following:

  • Coordinated with the Oviedo High School English department to receive a donation of over 500 books.
  • Carefully loaded the donated books from the storage area across the school into their cars for transportation.
  • Worked together as a team to ensure the safe handling and delivery of the books, contributing to the global effort to support literacy and education.
