Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, has many talented members. Since December 11th, 2018, we started to feature some of them on our web page, so all GPA members get to know each other. Hopefully, it would also help with more constructive and collaborative teamwork among GPA members in our volunteer activities! So here comes one of our proud members Wenyuan Fang:
Self-Introduction Provided by Wenyuan Fang:
I am Wenyuan Fang, an 8th grader of Montgomery Middle School in New Jersey. So glad to join this volunteer team of Greater Princeton AYLUS!
I was born in ZhuHai, China back in 2004. My life so far has been like travelling and trying all kind of things in this world. My family and I came to the United States for the first time because my mom wanted to study at a law school in Indiana, where my little sister was born in 2007. That’s right, I moved to America when I was 3, but that was only a small portion of my life.
After one and a half years in Indiana, we left the United States and went to Netherland because of my dad’s job relocation. Two years later, my family returned to ZhuHai, China. When I attended an elementary school in China for the first time, I got so confused between English alphabets and Pinyin (the spelling method of Mandarin), out of question, my grades were so bad during that year. After two and a half years, we moved to GuangZhou, where I spend a few more years.
In July 2017, my mom, my sister, and I moved to New Jersey, United States. This was another totally new life for me because I had to speak a different language in school and also to adapt the culture here. For me English is difficult because I had only been in an international school for two years, and most of my classmates speak Chinese.
I have been playing golf for two and a half years, and recently I have been attending tournaments in New Jersey. My best is a second place in a Local U.S. Kids tournament. I practice golf everyday during Summer. When it gets cold, I play twice a week indoor.
I like to play video games as most teenagers do. I also like math, which seems different from any other subject. I think Math is an unique language; if you like it, you have another tool to express your thoughts!
When I first heard of the GPA, I signed up immediately, because I am willing to help others, and I am a responsible person (at least I believe I am). I can help others with my strength like Math and Science. I think GPA is a fantastic program because it sharpens a lot of volunteers’ personalities and it also benefits the people who get help from it. It will make us more responsible and care about others.
