Greater Princeton AYLUS Volunteered at Natural Resources Conservation Service Between June 25 and August 31, 2018

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, is truly in favor of nature and conservation. GPA volunteered at “Natural Resources Conservation Service” (NRCS), an agency for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which helps America’s farmers, ranchers and forest landowners conserve the nation’s soil, water, air and other natural resources, offering science-based solutions that benefit both the landowner and the environment, between June 25th and August 31st, 2018.

GPA President Cassie Tammy Wang became an active Earth Team Volunteer with NRCS in early 2018, and utilized her knowledge in geographic information system (GIS) and natural science, talents in art and writing.  During the three months of summer 2018 (June – August), she spent 171 hours to volunteer with NRCS and got a certificate of recognition.

Date and Time Cassie Tammy Wang served:  June 25th, 2018 (9 hours), June 26th, 2018 (9 hours), June 27th, 2018 (9 hours), July 3rd, 2018 (9 hours), July 5th, 2018 (9 hours), July 6th, 2018 (9 hours), July 13th, 2018 (9 hours), July 20th, 2018 (9 hours), July 27th, 2018 (9 hours), August 3rd, 2018 (9 hours), August 10th, 2018 (9 hours), August 13th, 2018 (9 hours), August 16th, 2018 (9 hours), August 17th, 2018 (9 hours), August 20th, 2018 (9 hours), August 21st, 2018 (9 hours), August 23rd, 2018 (9 hours), August 27th, 2018 (9 hours), August 31st, 2018 (9 hours).

Besides volunteer opportunities with NRCS, GPA members interested in online map editing applied for Volunteer Map Editors with the National Map Corp of United States Geological Survey (USGS), the sole science agency for the Department of the Interior, which provides science about the natural hazards that threaten lives and livelihoods, the water, energy, minerals, and other natural resources human rely on, the health of ecosystems and environment, and the impacts of climate and land-use change. Cassie has become one of the top Volunteer Map Editors with USGS, and more GPA members are joining the National Map Corp.

In addition to volunteering with the agencies, as long as weather allows, GPA members participate in outdoor conservation activities to protect our precious natural resources by removing invasive species, caring for pollinator gardens, planting native trees and flowers. Park Volunteer Events are readily available in many locations in NJ throughout the year. There are always some beaches to be swept free of litter, and trails to be maintained. Come get close to the nature, help out our beloved park and trail systems with some hands-on fun, and the best of all, benefit the community that we live in!
