This week, on December 16th, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch went to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. They dealt with the invasive species English Ivy, which grow quickly and have long roots. Our volunteers used rakes, pitchforks, and shovels to dig up and pull out the ivy’s roots. The ivy grew together into a very large tangle of roots, making it a difficult challenge, but our volunteers worked hard. They got rid of much of the ivy this way, leaving the ecosystem much healthier and the area much cleaner. The volunteers worked hard from 9:30 am to 12:00 am, clearing almost all of the invasive ivy in the area.
Volunteers: Serena Chen (2.5 hours), Zoe Xia (2.5 hours), Feier Xu (2.5 hours)
