On April 7th, 2023, preparations for the fundraiser that was to occur the next day were fully underway. This fundraiser was in support of the Libraries with Love project, the profits going towards shipping costs for books.
As members of the Frisco/Plano AYLUS branch, my sister (Amanda Yin) and I (Emily Yin) made brownies, lemonade, and advertising posters for the sale. I made three posters: one for lemonade and cotton candy, one for books (we would be selling any books unfit to ship), and one for bracelets. For each product, I made sure to draw some pictures as well as announce our fundraising purpose: to build libraries for children in Africa. Additionally, I included the gemstone meanings of every type of bracelet. In total, these posters took two hours while the brownie-baking took three.
We made two batches of brownies, each in 13 x 9 inch pans; therefore, the process was gone through twice. The individual pans had to bake for nearly an hour and cool before cutting. In the end, after all the mixing and washing and cooking, we wrapped and delivered twenty-two soon-to-be-sold brownie portions, marketed at 50 cents apiece.
On the morning of the fundraiser, April 8th, we also prepared lemonade with some help from my mom. I think, personally, that it was extremely good lemonade, especially with the unpredictability of the drink. Overall, the processes were very rewarding in their outcomes; the lemonade and brownies sold well, while the posters received several compliments.
