On March 13, 2023, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, AYLUS Pearland hosted a health care terminology session in Spanish at the Pearland West Library. This exercise was in preparation for the ED White Health Fair and Family Event on April 15, where the majority of visitors are expected to be Hispanic. AYLUS Pearland volunteers were taught by Ms. Rush, a registered nurse, about what to do at this event and how to handle and talk to patients.
During the session, volunteers browsed through brochures and documents in English and Spanish. They learned how to talk about different cancers and how to present the Light and Salt Society’s benefit application services in Spanish.
At the end of the session, the volunteers were divided into several small groups to practice reading of all the documents describing the charity clinic and services offered by LSA in Spanish.
