On Sunday from 1:30-5:00, the AYLUS Roslyn branch assisted teachers at the school of the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.
Today, the students took a Chinese listening and comprehension test. We made sure every student followed along and repeated the questions when they needed it. A problem we faced was that a student was crying because he was stressed that he didn’t know how to answer the questions. It is our job as TAs to calm him down and patiently review the questions with him and teach him. Under our assistance, the student was able to finish the test and received a passing score for the exam. Next, the teacher prepared activities such as dancing and story telling. We translated some vocabulary for the students and made sure they can understand the story. At 4:00pm, the students went to their culture classes. We helped students in the origami class to finish a piece of art. Finally, we cleaned the classroom and set all the chairs and tables back. It was very enjoying to help the students learn and see them grow.
