On Saturday, February 15th, the Aylus Great Neck Branch hosted an AAPI event at the Parkville Library. Volunteers arrived earlier to set up tables and chairs, separating the different activities into three stations: origami, coloring, and crocheting. Children gathered around the carpet as volunteers Irena and Andrew read the books, “Danbi Leads the School Parade” by Anna Kim and “A Perfect Sushi” by Emily Satako Seo. To engage the children, volunteers asked questions throughout the book to encourage comprehension. Adele, Rainie, Enrico and Tiffany taught the children how to crochet and Goldman helped them with coloring. Rainie helped with origami by demonstrating how to fold a paper bird, which the children replicated and brought home after the event. Volunteers and children alike had a great time, and we thank everyone for coming and look forward to seeing everyone next time!
