On Sunday, February 2nd, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch dedicated their time to volunteering at the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island’s Chinese school, from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. As teacher assistants, our role was to support the students in various activities and classwork.
By assisting the teachers, we aimed to alleviate their stress while ensuring a fun and engaging atmosphere for the children. We began by warmly greeting each student and confirming that their homework from the previous week was completed. During lessons, we facilitated the distribution of papers, managed the PowerPoint presentations when necessary, and provided extra help to students who were struggling.
When it was time for breaks, students with coupons, either earned for their hard work in class or given by their parents, could purchase tasty snacks from the snack table and enjoy them. After the break, we resumed our duties until the culture classes started. These classes offered a diverse range of subjects, including Calligraphy, Art 1 and 2, Dance, Gym, Yoga, and more.
Finally, as dismissal approached, we ensured that each student left the classroom with the correct parent and stayed with any students who were still waiting for their parents. This experience was truly inspiring, as we had the opportunity to make a positive impact on both the students and the teachers. We look forward to continuing to support these children and assist the teachers in their roles.
