On Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm, Roslyn AYLUS members volunteered at NOSH delivers. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry with the purpose of providing food and other supplies to families in need.
We began with breaking excess cardboard boxes down, folding them so they can be thrown away neatly and efficiently. Then, we broke into different groups each focused on a different task. In the back volunteers focused on filling NOSH bags with supplies. Many foods packaged inside the bags included non-perishable canned chickpeas, peaches, green beans, and white rice.
Once all necessary bags were filled, we began to decorate paper bags to later be filled with more foods. Using different colored markers and stickers that came in multiple shapes and sizes, we immersed ourselves into creating unique designs to fully enhance NOSH’s customers’ experience.
In the front volunteers assisted customers shopping for food by walking them down the food aisle, and placing the supplies into their bags. We kept our interactions friendly and enthusiastic to give a smooth experience for customers shopping. While it was important to make sure to give customers what they need, we also had to prevent them from taking more than the maximum food allowed per customer.
Volunteering at NOSH allows us to be more open-minded about activities and lives outside our own perspective. Customers may struggle with having the necessary food they need, and by volunteering here we are making a positive impact for many, while also gaining more experience for ourselves!
Volunteers who participated include:
Serena Wu (3 hours), Jolina Wu (3 hours), Charlotte Wu (3 hours), Amy Wu (3 hours), and Zihan Wang (3 hours)
