On Sunday, January 5th The AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered at The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island’s school From 1:30 pm to 5 pm at Great Neck South High School, Our TAs and Teachers helped with many various activities at the school.
As TAs we started in the classrooms fulfilling the afternoon by checking in with our teachers and helped marking attendance as we perform and complete every week. This week, our students showed our teachers the drawing of our poster boards in our classrooms. There were many pictures taken from various boards that our students showed our teachers. Additionally, Our job is to ensure appropriate student behavior, making sure students are on task as well as providing the best in learning about the Chinese language and culture. When the students struggled in understanding the topic or about the lesson the TAs helped them by step by step instructions and guiding through the process of learning about Chinese culture.
Then from 4-5 pm the TA’s would bring the students down to their culture classes. Culture classes are activities that shows what the Chinese culture is like. The class is a mix of martial arts, arts, dance and drawing. The culture class would help students engage in learning in their creativity intelligence.
Generally, we all had a productive afternoon helping our teachers and students at the Chinese School. The positive interaction between the students and teachers proves the amount of hard work that the teachers and TA’s put through for an exciting learning experience for the students. We’re all very grateful for the opportunity to help teachers and students as well as learning how to help others in our local school community.
