AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families through NOSH delivers! Food Pantry (46th) on January 3rd, 2025

On Friday, January 3, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, Roslyn members dedicated themselves to helping people battling food insecurity by helping out at the local food pantry.

The food pantry is a busy hub where there’s always a diverse array of work that needs to be done. Once we arrived, our volunteers split up to lend our hands in different areas.

Some of our volunteers went to help shoppers, walking them through the aisle and pointing at the various items for the shoppers to pick from. Others restocked and organized shelves, making sure they are always filled to the brim with food and full of options for the shoppers. Organizing the shelves helps make it more efficient and allows the shoppers to easily locate what they need by grouping similar cans and drinks together. Other volunteers worked in the back where hundreds of goodie bags of vegetables were assembled for delivery. 250 pasta and sweets were also counted out and labeled for packages that will be put together the next day. Some of our volunteers were movers and constantly flitted about the room, restocking fresh produce for the farmer’s market and bringing crates around.

In my opinion, there’s no better way to start off the new year than to volunteer at a food pantry. Not only is the work rewarding, we also gained a deeper awareness of the community around us and how not everyone lives in the same privileged bubble. In this upcoming year, the Roslyn AYLUS Branch pledges to give everything we have, open our arms and hearts to our community, and strive to help more people in need.

Volunteers who participated include:

Yang Amy Wu (4hrs), Zihan Wang (4 hrs), Nicholas Chao (4 hrs), Ethan Lin (4 hrs), and Charlotte Wu (4 hrs).
