On Tuesday, December 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Roslyn Branch of AYLUS volunteered with NOSH Delivers! to support a community food drive. At the food pantry, they helped pack food supplies and spare equipment such as backpacks or books.
Today, volunteers worked alongside staff to organize and prepare items for the week’s distributions. NOSH Delivers! uses a unique NOSH bag delivered straight to families’ doorsteps. Volunteers packed over 200 NOSH bags filled with fresh produce like potatoes, onions, carrots, and apples and laid out the groceries needed for the NOSH bags on Thursday, such as salmon, pasta, and tomato sauce. In addition, Volunteers also restocked the pantry shelves for families visiting the pantry for food and organized boxes of eggs by cutting the cartons in half to allow for portion control and easier handling. Their dedication and hard work have made a significant difference in our community.
Volunteers demonstrated exceptional care and commitment to safety when handling produce and eggs, keeping a safe distance from others when using sharp cutting tools, and using gloves to prevent contamination of produce. Their dedication to safety reassures us of our organization’s responsible and professional practices. In addition, teamwork skills were shared with multiple volunteers, such as filling in for when someone is tired, handing materials to allow for easier and faster access, and assigning specific tasks to specific people with skills that would be most beneficial in those areas. Altogether, we are very proud to be able to assist today and would love to come back in the future.
