On Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 1 to 4 PM, Aylus Roslyn volunteers went to the CP Nassau’s Bellmore residential home to spend time with the residents there. CP Nassau is an organization that assists individuals with disabilities. CP Nassau provides people with disabilities quality programs that will help them reach their best life.
Once we arrived at the residential home we started out by introducing ourselves to all of the residents but since we had been there before they had already recognized us! Each resident was very excited to see us and we were so excited to see them. Our first activity of the day was arts and crafts. We helped each resident create their own holiday cards by adding decorations, drawings, messages (in case they want to send their card out to a close friend or family member), and stickers. Each card was very artistic and bright! The residents enjoyed their holidays very much. Our next arts and crafts was coloring ornaments with paint markers. There were a wide variety of ornaments that the residents could choose from such as Santa’s boot, a regular ornament, a christmas tree, and way more. We helped the residents choose out their favorite colors and helped them color the ornaments. Some residents even wanted to add fancy designs inside of their ornaments.
Our second activity of the day playing games. The first game we played was hedbanz which is a game where you place a headband on your head and somebody chooses a card. The card has an item and you have to ask the audience questions about the item. Once you finish asking questions you can guess your item. Each resident gave the game a shot and although they couldn’t guess their card they still had a jovial time! After each person had gone once the residents decided that they wanted to play UNO.
Right before we started to play UNO everybody took a little snack break. The wonderful workers at the house had provided us with cookies, bagels, and lemonade. We all enjoyed a light snack and continued on with our UNO games.
Once it was time to leave we said our goodbyes. The residents were very sad that we were leaving but we assured them that we would be coming back. The residents had a great time with us and we had a great time with them.
We had such a great time spending time with the residents. They were all so sweet and we hope to create as many memories as we can with them!
