On Saturday, November 30th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, AYLUS Roslyn helped out at NOSH
Delivers!, a food pantry dedicated to providing food for those in need.
Many generous donations were made by community members and organizations for the
holidays, helping to put an extra dish on the table for family celebrations. Today, one of our
tasks was to create NOSH bags filled with beans, mac and cheese, collard greens, and tuna.
With the recent donations, we were able to make 150 bags. NOSH also decided to implement
changes in the way that it runs, and some of our volunteers helped them to test it out. Since the
farmer’s market was always overrun by shoppers, this time, only three shoppers were allowed
to be in the market at a time, each with a volunteer to guide them through. This system ended
up being much more efficient than before, reducing crowding in the pantry and the farmer’s
market.
Our session today helped us to understand the need for support from our communities to keep
places like NOSH running, and how NOSH is always looking to improve, to provide better
service for both new and returning shoppers. We are grateful to be able to aid in the effort of
distributing food this Thanksgiving weekend, and we hope to continue making an impact while
volunteering at NOSH.
