AYLUS Orlando Branch, Boombah Soldiers Park Little Library Installation (Nov 29th, 2024)

 Reported by Dylan Wang

On Nov 29th, 2024, the AYLUS Orlando branch installed a Little Library along with multiple books for the stock.

The motivation behind this placement of Little Library was the interaction between AYLUS volunteers and kids who were skipping school. We realized the area could have a potential lack to literacy and kids who needed to read could access books more efficiently if we started a little library there.

BOOMBAH Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, FL, features six natural turf fields, a championship stadium, batting cages, a playground, and trails, alongside amenities like pavilions, concessions, and meeting rooms, catering to sports, events, and outdoor activities.

The participants did the following:

  • Purchase materials from Home Depot for the construction.
  • Assemble a little library using online materials and a 6 foot 4×4 wooden post.
  • Dig a 32-inch deep hole and stick the library in.
  • Make sure the library was level, then gather books for the library and place them inside.

This event aligns perfectly with AYLUS Orlando’s mission of environmentalism. By maintaining and beautifying local parks, we contribute to preserving natural spaces and ensuring that these areas remain safe and enjoyable for the community. Our commitment to regular cleanups reflects our dedication to fostering a cleaner, healthier environment. Each cleanup effort not only improves the immediate area but also raises awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship, inspiring others to take part in similar initiatives.

AYLUS has made other efforts through the adopt-a-location programs, such as the SR-419 Road they adopted through the Adopt-a-Road system, the Wekiva River they adopted through the adopt-a-river system, and the Sanford Boardward they adopted through the Adopt-a-Goat system. AYLUS hopes more people can come and help for their efforts.

This is the sixth cleanup. This event occurred on November 29th, 2024.

These people participated in the Jamestown park volunteer activity, an hour for following each person: Dylan Wang (Library Construction), Simon Gong, Victor Fang, Jimmy Sun, Jason Wang, Nathan Lu.
