Syosset AYLUS Attends Turkey Drive 11/22/24

On the evening of Friday, November 22nd Syosset AYLUS members gathered together at the Long Island Harvest Food Bank at the turkey drive. As the holiday season approaches quickly, food insecurity is an increasing problem for all: especially on Long Island. Over 200 thousand people on Long Island struggle with acquiring adequate food that is nutritious. This event is dedicated to sourcing a hearty meal for those who can not afford one this Thanksgiving.

Luckily, organizations such as the Island Harvest Food Bank help combat this issue by gathering a community that is willing to help each other. The organization targets the problem by holding meaningful events that bring awareness, education, and short-term case management all of which contribute to mitigating food insecurity. The food bank supports individuals of all ages from children to seniors, as well as veterans in times of crisis.

Syosset volunteers contributed to this turkey drive, each person bringing in a turkey. While we may not be able to wipe away the world’s problems in one swipe, each donation is a stepping stone to ending hunger. Over forty members attended tonight, meaning over forty families can enjoy a slightly happier Thanksgiving season. These events are the ones we value the most; the events that take action and have our community hold hand in hand to help eachother out.
