Pearland volunteers participated in a workshop to design the curriculum for SMILE Wonder Kids, a new monthly inclusive program for individuals with special needs. This program builds upon the success of the previous SMILE Inclusive Play & Learn, incorporating more structured training within a fun, play-based environment.
The session, led by Sharon Cheng, Director of LSA’s Special Needs Caring Center, focused on designing activity centers and planning engaging activities for participants. Volunteers engaged in discussions on effective communication techniques, including appropriate interaction styles and language for engaging with individuals with special needs. They also reviewed participant profiles to tailor strategies and ensure a personalized and supportive experience for each individual.
