On October 26th, AYLUS Oakland Gardens’ 128th event, AYLUS Oakland Gardens set up attractions at the Halloween Festival at Fort Totten Park. This is our second time doing activities at the Halloween Festival in Bayside. It was a cold day, but the sun was out. We started the event from 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Halloween Festival at Bayside was a way to get people out of the house, make them appreciate their parks, and keep them clean. These park events are meant for people to socialize and to go outside. The events are a great way for people to enjoy nature. Ever since Covid 19, people have been at home more often. The park events give people a reason to go outside and hang out.
For the Festival we set up archery, balloon animals, and a face paint stall. At the archery stall, we used plastic bows and suction cup arrows. The archery stall tested people’s patience and precision. The members of Oakland Gardens also had to be patient with teaching other people something new. They had to teach other people how to shoot it properly and how to aim. At the balloon stall, there were a lot of people. So members of Oakland Gardens had to communicate with each other a lot. Members needed to figure out what balloon had been made and what needed to be made. At the face-painting stall, there were also a lot of people. Members had to be careful since they were painting so close to a person’s eyes or mouth. Face painting was a time-consuming process since being too fast could hurt someone. All the stalls were a way for the children to enjoy the festival and have fun.
There was also an obstacle course where children could race to see who was the fastest. There was also an exercise wheel where a child would spin, do an exercise, and get a prize. All these stalls had children to move their bodies. It shows children that exercising and moving doesn’t have to be a bad thing, it could be fun as well.
We would like to thank Matt Symons (Northeast Queens Park Administrator ) for setting up the Halloween Festival. We would also like to thank Stephen Cunnlingham for making sure that everything at the festival ran smoothly. Thank you to all the volunteers who went to the festival and helped set up our stall.
