On October 5, four dedicated AYLUS members – Derek Zhu, Joshua Meng, Nicole Song, and Junxi Zhang – came together for a meaningful e-waste collection event. They were joined by parents on duty, Jun Liu and Brian Liu, whose support was invaluable in making the day a success.
Together, the team worked diligently to collect over 70 used electronics, including PCs, monitors,
printers, and TV sets, from a local office. Each piece was carefully transported, tested, and sorted, with the functional items earmarked for resale at affordable prices to benefit low-income community
members. Over a month, the event raised over $300, which will support the school club’s future
activities and outreach efforts. Additionally, items that were unsellable were donated to a local
technician skilled in repurposing parts to create affordable PC-monitor sets for families in need,
extending the impact of the event to underserved households.
This initiative not only contributed to reducing e-waste but also promoted community support,
accessibility to technology, and environmental sustainability. Thanks to the hard work of Derek, Joshua, Nicole, Junxi, and the dedicated parents, the event was a remarkable success that stands as a model of community service and environmental stewardship. Volunteers:
