AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families through NOSH delivers! Food Pantry (24th) on August 24, 2024

On Saturday, August 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Roslyn Branch of AYLUS helped a community food drive called NOSH Delivers! by working at their food pantry to give food and products to families who could not afford them.

Nosh Delivers is a nonprofit organization based in Glen Cove, dedicated to addressing food insecurity in the North Shore Long Island community. Founded in March 2020 during the pandemic, Nosh Delivers provides weekly deliveries of nutritious groceries to needy families, commonly called NOSH bags.

Today, volunteers joined the staff to organize and prepare items for distribution over the coming week. The goal was to deliver over 250 NOSH bags, each carefully packed with ingredients taken out of their boxes and arranged for easy access. We filled over 120 bags and set aside materials for the remaining ones. In addition, we restocked the food pantry with essential items such as frozen meat, canned goods, and snacks while replenishing the baskets of vegetables in the Farmer’s Market section. This task was crucial, as some fruits and vegetables had begun to develop mold. We ensured families would receive safe and healthy food by sorting through and removing these items.

This experience taught us the importance of teamwork and effective communication in accomplishing our goals. We also gained a deeper understanding of the significance of proper food handling. This work served as a reminder of how fortunate we are to have food, and it reinforced our appreciation for the resources we often take for granted. We look forward to returning and continuing our efforts soon.
