AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Helps Take Care Of Community Garden (8/14/2024)

Today, August 14, 2024, is AYLUS Oakland Gadren’s 109th event. The event took place at P.S. 309Q on August 14th. Everybody who took part in the event helped with ripping away the weeds and watering the plants with hoses and buckets. The unbearable heat has dried up lots of plants, causing them to die from the lack of water, which was a big problem considering we had no way to block or stop the heat from getting to the plants.

When we started, it was clear that the plants needed way more water in order to stay alive. Also, lots of plants and vegetables have gone missing since the last time we were at the garden. So, we quickly started by clearing away any weeds lying inside the flower beds. The other group was busy untangling the hoses, as they would be our water source. We then started rigorously watering the plants. We had to make sure that we could not water too much, or else the plants would die from dehydration.
This was a very successful event, as we all still enjoyed the experience of being able to help a cause. Everybody worked hard and put their time and effort into this event. Thank you to all the volunteers who were able to attend this event!
