SMILE 4 Special Needs (#169): Pearland Volunteers Taught Bucket Drumming (#18) at GiGi’s Playhouse Houston on July 31, 2024

On the afternoon of July 31, 2024, volunteers conducted a bucket drumming session for adults with special needs at GiGi’s Playhouse Houston. Ten adults participated in the lesson. This was the final bucket drumming session for the adults’ class at the Houston location this summer.
The volunteers began with a quick review of the basic sounds of bucket drumming and counting beats. After practicing different sound combinations, they played along to a song. Next, the participants led the “Green, Yellow, and Red” game to practice rhythm and stopping. Later, they took turns leading a pattern while the others followed, with each participant having the opportunity to be the leader. They all thoroughly enjoyed the bucket drumming activities. After the lesson, the volunteers handed out notebooks and protein shakers and took group photos with the class.
