On February 4th, from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, the Roslyn AYLUS branch collaborated with the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island。
Every Sunday, volunteers work with students and teachers to provide a more efficient and safer learning environment. We help aid teachers in giving what students need, in order to not overwhelm the teacher with extra responsibilities. We also communicate with students to make their learning environment more comfortable and safe. We have to make sure to treat all students equally and pay attention to everyone. It is an important part of being a TA.
Today was the week before Lunar new year, and so all the students and TA’s received a red packet and learned about the origins of the holiday. After learning a lesson and doing some class work, we took the kids downstairs to hand out red packets and learn some new year phrases. Afterwards, we took them to a cultural class where they are able to learn about Chinese culture and develop new skills ranging from arts and crafts to singing and dancing.
