Syosset volunteers partnered with Long Island Cares to help collect food (11/5 /2023)

On Saturday, 11/5, AYLUS volunteers from the Syosset branch partnered with Long Island Cares to help collect food and raise money. Long Island Cares is a food bank that helps families all over long island to escape food insecurity. Over 200,000 people face food insecurity on Long Island, and LIC hopes to help this problem. They collect food donations at different grocery stores in order to combat food insecurity. Volunteers take shifts between 9AM to 5PM, collecting non-perishable products that can then be sent to families.

Syosset volunteers handed out flyers to shoppers explaining the most needed products. Over the course of two, students learned to interact with people, enforcing social skills and teaching real-world situations and interactions. Others were put to help organize the different products and sort them into boxes.
