AYLUS RC Branch Volunteers at Rancho Cucamonga Adaptive Sports Fair 0n 06/10/2023
On June 10, 2023, two dedicated members from the AYLUS RC Branch participated in the Adaptive Sports Fair hosted by Rancho Cucamonga City. This event took place at our city’s Sports Center and was designed to provide individuals with physical disabilities and their families with an opportunity to engage in sports and recreational activities. The event was open to all citizens of our city, and its main objective was to create a memorable and fun-filled day for all participants.
Before the event commenced, the organizers provided all volunteers with a detailed introduction to their roles and responsibilities, given the unique nature of the event’s participants. Our duties included check-in at the front desk, maintaining order, ensuring participant safety, and assisting with activities. Additionally, some of us served as on-call volunteers who could be redeployed as needed throughout the day, as there were multiple activity areas.
We were assigned to the indoor soccer field, where we interacted with each participant, assisting them by retrieving balls, explaining the rules of the activities, and providing encouragement. Regardless of the participants’ physical capabilities, the joy they experienced by taking part in the event was palpable. As volunteers, we relished the opportunity to create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone could enjoy the festivities.
After the day’s activities concluded, we also assisted the organizers in packing up equipment and cleaning the various activity areas. The cheerful and energetic atmosphere during the event made the six hours pass quickly.
Through this event, I gained a deeper understanding of how sports are accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical condition. It reinforced the idea that there is a suitable way for everyone to enjoy the happiness that sports can bring. This experience reminded us of the importance of inclusion and highlighted the shared joy that sports can bring to all individuals, regardless of their physical abilities. We look forward to future opportunities to continue contributing to our community in a meaningful way.
The volunteer hours for this event were six, and the names of the participating volunteers are as follows:
