On August 12th, seven volunteers from Syosset helped to work and clean Manorhaven Beach Park. From 9:30 to 11:30 AM, volunteers had the opportunity to work on both land and water to help preserve and clean our beaches. On land, volunteers explored and walked along the beach, collecting various pieces of trash from forgotten toys to wrappers and cigarette butts. With microplastics scattered across the shore, volunteers helped collect more visible pieces. On the other hand, volunteers working on water had the opportunity to go on a kayak or use a stand up paddleboat and seek out ocean garbage. Some finds consisted of bricks, plastics, boxes, and even tires. The Syosset branch partnered with John Darcy to help contribute to this event. All together, well over 100 pounds of garbage was collected and removed from Manorhaven’s Beach and Park, finishing just before a storm came rolling in.
Volunteers: (2 hours) Rachel Zhang, Sonia Huang, Nichole Huang, Jianie Huang, Isabella Huang, Christopher Dechiaro, and Erika.
