On August 1, 2023, AYLUS volunteers participated in the Light and Salt Association’s SMILE program, a heartwarming initiative dedicated to assisting students with special needs. The volunteers dedicated their time and efforts to create a memorable and fulfilling day for the students.
In the morning session, the students engaged in reading exercises where they practiced their reading skills by delving into a short and captivating story. The volunteers provided patient guidance, ensuring that each student had the support they needed to comprehend and enjoy the story fully.
As the day progressed into the afternoon, the volunteers took on the task of teaching and playing engaging games with the students. The popular board game Monopoly and the classic card game Uno were chosen to bring joy and excitement to the students’ experience. With unwavering encouragement and assistance, the volunteers made sure that every student felt included and had a fantastic time participating in the games.
The day was a remarkable blend of education, entertainment, and compassion. Through their selfless dedication, the AYLUS volunteers succeeded in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where students with disabilities could thrive and experience the joy of learning and playing together. The SMILE program left a lasting impact on both the students and volunteers, reinforcing the power of community and empathy in making a difference in the lives of others.
