On Sunday from 1:30-5:00, May 14th, the Roslyn AYLUS branch helped teachers from the school of Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.
Since it is almost the end of the class, many students were more chatty and energized than usual, spending more time hanging out with their friends. There are also more quizzes and tests, making it a little more challenging. However, the TA’s are here to help the students stay focused and understand the topic being teached. Today, there was a new student in class, and it didn’t take long for the others to open up and welcome them into the class.
As TA’s, we must make sure that the students do not hurt themselves and have fun learning in a comfortable environment. We will pick up things that drop on the floor, make sure they do not run around the classroom, and for them to lower their voices when their peers are speaking. We are not mean and threatening to the children, instead, we will speak to them in a calm and quiet manner, and ask them if they could behave themselves instead of force. While the teacher had told students to line up to write on the board, two students had gotten into a disagreement on who was going first, and we had to tell them that it is not okay to fight and argue before talking it out first, and that they can both go at the same time, so there will be no more conflict.
Members who participated include:
Angeline Li (3.5 hours), Brooke Zheng (3.5 hours), Ryan Lin (3.5 hours), and Mingyao Xu (3.5 hours).
