On February 11, AYLUS members gathered together in the Pearland West Library to discuss the Lunar New Year festival volunteering experience held on Jan. 21. Those who volunteered at the festival either helped build the center-stage set, directed traffic or ran different errands to help the vendors. Although the festival was successful in hosting many vendors and sharing traditions with the Pearland community, there were many challenges that needed to be acknowledged in order to improve next year’s festival. The volunteers first gave feedback from their volunteering experience and discussed different solutions to help with any potential problems, concerns and challenges for next year. Solutions included allocating sufficient time before the festival to do hands-on training for the volunteers and to implement more effective communication methods between leaders and volunteers. An officer took notes at the discussion which were later shared to the AYLUS Pearland and Pearland Chinese Association board.
After the discussion, volunteers had a small celebration in the library to recognize their dedication by engaging in many activities such as face painting, making cotton candy and playing with the Chinese yo-yo.
