Lake Jordan is the main source of water for North Carolina residents. It is also a habitat for cherishing and protecting the bird bald eagle. Large amounts of litter in recent years have eroded the bald eagle’s habitat to the brink of extinction, prompting volunteer efforts to clean up shorelines and other sensitive areas.
In 2009 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partnered with local activists to establish Clean Jordan Lake, a non-profit “Friends of the Lake” organization.
