On Saturday, October 8, from 8:30- 11:00 am, the Roslyn Branch participated at the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB) annual 5-K walk in the Eisenhower Park.
Bullying is a serious issue that we must address in our society. Not only do people suffer physically from it, bullies affect their victims psychologically as well, inducing fear, lowering self-esteem. Their victims most likely have poorer emotional and social adjustment, and are more likely to be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. We must not ignore this detrimental issue and take part in stopping it.
The Roslyn Branch partnered with Welcome Campaign and by participating in the walk, we raised $3005.00. The money raised will be put towards increased awareness of bullying through education and therapeutic outlets. We might not have done much today, but we hope that this small step will cease bullying in the long run.
Members who participated include:
Yang Amy Wu (2.5 hours) and Serena Wu (2.5 hours).
