On August 28th, 14 members of the AYLUS Fairfax branch gathered at Scotts Run Nature Preserve to help cleanup the park.
Guided by longtime local volunteer Dr. Scott of Scott’s Run, our volunteers split up into multiple groups to clean up various trails on the Nature Preserve. Armed with gloves, bug spray, and trash bags, we marched into the forest determined to leave the place looking spotless. One group took a trail along the perimeter of the preserve that was less travelled and thankfully found the trail to be quite clean. Another group travelled behind Scott’s Run iconic waterfall through a more popular route and found an assortment of items left behind including but not limited to half a birthday cake, a full set of clothes, a boot, and empty Styrofoam meal containers. Our volunteers enthusiastically bagged this waste up, whilst enjoying the refreshing forest environment. Along the way Scott shared with the volunteers much of his knowledge and insight about Scott’s run and its wildlife. AYLUS will be sure to return to Scott’s Run and help keep our community nature preserve clean for everyone.
Best,
Kaiden
