AYLUS Bayside AIDS in Securing a Health Harvest at The Long Island Native Plant Intiative, #2 (08/13/22)

On 8/13/22, members of AYLUS Bayside went to the Brentwood LINPI (Long Island Native Plants Initiative) Greenhouse to pot the native plants such as milkweed, a species of aronia, joe-pye weed, button bush, partnering with AYLUS Syosset Branch.

Milkweed, a host plant for the monarch butterfly, is a member of the Asclepiadaceae (milkweed) family. Without milkweed, the larva would not be able to develop into a butterflyJoe-pye weed attract multiple butterflies with their sweet nectar; Growing Joe-pye weed is a wonderful way to bring some nature to the yard. Aronia plants are a family of plants originally native to North America. The button bush is a great shrub for naturalizing in wet areas and attracts butterflies as well.
