On 4/2/22, AYLUS Syosset members volunteered with wildlife authorities Bethpage State Park raking, pruning and identifying which native and invasive plant species are emerging now. Through a collaborative effort, around half a mile of land was covered and thorough pruned. This allows the native plant life to gain the maximum nutrients from the soil without other invasive species leeching their food supply.
Invasive plants and weed species are incredibly harmful to natural wildlife, and pruning of such wildlife, especially in natural sanctuaries and state parks, are crucial to the continued healthy growth of native plant species. AYLUS Syosset will begin a continued effort to help preserve our local state parks’ natural plant life.
Members who participated include: Jaden Chen (3 hours), Kelly Shen (3 hours), Ryan Leung (3 hours) and Jasmine Chen (3 hours).
