AYLUS Syosset Aids in Securing a Healthy Harvest at the Long Island Native Plant Initiative, #4 (4/9/22)

On 4/9/22, AYLUS Syosset visited the Long Island Native Plant Initiative and helped in removing invasive weeds from potted plants by pulling out the weeds from the pot and relocating them into composting buckets. By removing weeds from these baby seaside goldenrod plants, the plants are allowed to gain the maximum nutrients from the soil without other invasive plants leeching their food supply. Through our efforts, around 100 plants were successfully de-weeded.

The Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) is an all-volunteer cooperative effort of over 30 non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, nursery professionals, and citizens. Their mission is to protect the genetic integrity and heritage of Long Island native plant populations by establishing commercial sources of genetically appropriate local (ecotypic) plant materials for use in nurseries, landscaping, and habitat restoration activities.

Members who participated include Ryan Leung (3 hours), Jasmine Chen (3 hours), Tommy Haotian Tang (3 hours), and Leo Cheng (3 hours).
