AYLUS Syosset Set Up Composting Station 6 to Help the Environment(5/1/21, #6)

On 5/1/21, members of the AYLUS Syosset participated in the assembly and preparation of a composter for a house in the community of Arlington, Virginia.

The AYLUS Syosset branch had members assemble a tumbler composter in the backyard of a member’s house.. After assembly, the members procured scraps of cardboard, paper, leaves, twigs, and food scraps in order to be composted. These were either already supplied by the house, or were scavenged around backyard. These biodegradable materials were then placed within the composter in layers, mixed, and eventually sealed up. After the compost was deposited in the assembled tumbler composter, each member got the chance to turn the composter.

This composter will ultimately aid the local environment by allowing food scraps and other naturally degradable waste, to be turned into a nutrient rich soil instead of being left to rot in a landfill, also reducing food waste.

Participants included Leo Cheng(3 hours),  Alan Huang(3 hours), Ryan Leung(3 hours), Jasmine Chen(3 hours), Sean Kane.
