Starting from May 6, 2020 and ending on June 20, 2020, Phoenix AYLUS member Edward Zhang made 400 face shields to send to Aylus Phoenix Navajo Country, Desert Cove Nursing Center, Local doctors and nurses, and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. The face shields act as an added layer of protection over normal surgical face masks and are used to protect the face from any liquids. Each face shield requires a piece of bendable plastic, a strip styrofoam, and laces. The face shields were made by hole punching the top corners of the plastic to staple the laces through and then hot glueing the strip of styrofoam onto the top of the plastic to be used as a head rest. Each face shield averages about 4-5 minutes of work time not including the time used to prepare the materials.
