Greater Princeton AYLUS Continued ABC Youth Chess Program (4th) in West Windsor on April 6 and 13, 2020

On April 6 and 13, 2020, despite the COVID-19 outbreak, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) continued its ABC Chess program to help kids learn how to play chess by moving the program online.

GPA volunteer Sarah Yan was the Champion of 2017 NJ Open U1600, while Erick Yan was the Champion of 2016 Manhattan Open Mixed Doubles Team. They are teaching around 12 school-aged children how to play chess and various strategies used to win a game. Sarah and Erick taught various skills used to defeat one’s opponent in the complicated game of chess such as pins and forks. With the continuation of the online classes, we can help students who have the passion for learning chess, even during this hard time.

The program will be once a week. The class is in the format of teaching, tactics and game playing. GPA plans to get more children interested in the tough yet fun game of chess and let younger kids in the community learn the beautiful mind game and keep it as a lifelong hobby.

Participants: Sarah Yan (April 6 and 13, 2 hours each), Erick Yan (April 6 and 13, 2 hours each).
