San Diego Branch assists with AYLUS third round of donations to Hubei Hospitals

Reported by Samuel Li

As the pandemic in China continued to spread, the Chinese government took actions to contain the virus by locking down the impacted cities and providing government assistance. This has greatly alleviated the shortage of medical supplies in Wuhan hospitals. However, the hospitals in surrounding towns were still in urgent need. Therefore, AYLUS and Intel Chinese Employee Network (ICEN) decided to use $36,000 in donations to purchase more medical supplies to assist clinics and hospitals within Hubei province.

ICEN had requested AYLUS’ assistance in helping with medical equipment purchase and donation to various hospitals. Given the complexity of the mission, AYLUS decided to split it into three tasks: securing funding, locating and delivering to hospitals in need, and eventually negotiating with product manufacturers to purchase the supplies. The San Diego Branch was tasked with the second task of location and delivery to hospitals.

The San Diego Branch immediately contacted local volunteers in Wuhan to aggregate data in order to analyze the distribution and specificity of medical supply shortage amongst clinics and hospitals within Hubei province. AYLUS then arranged the purchase of supplies based on the analysis. Ultimately, AYLUS assisted ICEN in donating 20 pulse oximeters to six hospitals, 33 UV lamp air disinfection purifiers in 12 hospitals, and 54 infrared thermometers in 2 hospitals. Note that  2 sets of UV disinfection air purifiers were donated to Dr. Li Wenliang’s hospital. These much-needed medical devices have greatly helped these county-level clinics and hospitals in treating COVID-19 patients, fulfilling the kind wishes of many donors.
